The ballroom and dining room each feature large French chandeliers and
Oriental rugs. Marble mantles and two lovely pianos serve as a backdrop
for the beautiful oil paintings and handsome antiques which are used
throughout. |

Once the location of gala balls and
gatherings, the dining room is the perfect setting to enjoy the
Excelsior's famous Plantation breakfast or to host receptions, luncheons
or dinners. The adjoining courtyard, with its elegant fountain and quiet
alcoves, is the frequent site of weddings, ranging from the quiet family
services to elaborate ceremonies. |
|
| Tours of the Excelsior House are available
daily. For a fee of $4, visitors are treated to information about the
history of the hotel and shown through the lobby, museum room, ballroom,
dining room, courtyard and several bedrooms. Also available are tours of Jay Gould's private railroad car, "the
Atalanta". A railroad tycoon, Jay Gould is reputed to have
predicted the "End of Jefferson" Texas. |
