What is the story of the Excelsior Hotel?
The Excelsior House Hotel, located in Jefferson, Texas, has a fascinating history. Built by riverboat captain William Perry in the late 1850s, it’s the oldest hotel in Texas. Over the years, it has hosted luminaries like Ulysses S. Grant, Oscar Wilde, and even Steven Spielberg. The hotel is currently owned by the Excelsior Foundation and the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club, who lovingly restored it to its former glory. What time is check-in/check-out?
Check-in time is from 3PM – 8PM. Please notify the hotel if you will need to check in after 8pm. Check-out time is 11 AM.
What is your cancellation policy?
- Cancellation Policy for Group Bookings and special events: At least thirty (30) days notice is required to receive a refund of a deposit for group bookings and special event bookings, minus a $50 cancellation fee per room. If the hotel is not notified of the cancellation at least 30 days prior to the special event or group booking, the deposit is non-refundable. Special Events and holidays include : Mardi Gras, Pilgrimage, October Burn Benefit, Candlelight Weekends.
- Cancellation Policy for regular bookings: For regular bookings, at least seven days notice of cancellation is required to receive a refund of the deposit, minus a $50 cancellation fee per room. If at least 7 days cancellation notice is not provided, the deposit is non-refundable.
- No Show: The entire balance will be charged to the card on file.
- Facilities rental for special events such as theatrical productions and weddings are charged one-half the facility fee before reservation can be booked. If food service is to be provided by the hotel, that charge will also incur a one-half fee deposit to place the order. Balance is due day of even

Is breakfast included?
Wake up to the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee in our historic dining room or sun porch, overlooking our picturesque New Orleans-style courtyard. After a restful night’s sleep, treat yourself to our Excelsor Southern Breakfast, served on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This delicious breakfast includes scrambled eggs, ham, Southern-style grits, a fruit cup, Snuff Can biscuits, our renowned Orange Blossom muffins, coffee, and juice.
The cost is $24.95 per person, plus tax, and reservations are essential. For groups of six or more, a 20% gratuity will be added. Complimentary coffee is available daily in the lobby.
Can I get a package delivered to the excelsior hotel?
Yes! You can have packages delivered to the hotel’s address. Just let the front desk know in advance if you’re expecting something. Please note that while we’re happy to accept deliveries, we can’t guarantee their arrival time.

Our hotel is a historic property, built before modern accessibility standards. While we do not consider any of our rooms or common areas to be fully accessible, we want to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Is there housekeeping service daily?
Yes, there is daily housekeeping, usually before noon.
Do you have non-smoking rooms?
All of our rooms and indoor spaces are completely smoke-free. Thank you for respecting our non-smoking policy!

While we don’t offer dry cleaning or laundry services on-site, our friendly front desk staff will be happy to recommend nearby options!

Is parking available?
Parking is available in front of the hotel. During special events it may not be possible to park in front of the Hotel due to City street closure. Be assure that there is ample parking available downtown.
Does the excelsior hotel have a gift shop?
We have a small area in our museum room where we offer a variety of gift items. We hope you’ll find something you like!

The closest airports are Shreveport Regional Airport and East Texas Regional Airport in Longview. Please be aware that the hotel does not provide airport shuttle or transportation services. You’ll need to arrange your own transportation.
